Hearing Loops: Already at Some Wegman's Supermarkets, and Headed for More
Wegman's Food Markets, a supermarket chain with 88 stores in New York, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania, has installed hearing loops in 16 of its stores. Their goal is to have loops installed in all stores by the end the year. They currently have at least one store in each state equipped, and the hearing loops are at the pharmacy counters, customer service desks, and designated checkout lanes.
The HLAA Rochester Chapter in New York was instrumental in this initiative. The Rochester Chapter began discussions with Wegman's by helping them understand what a difference a hearing loop makes in the lives of those with hearing loss. Wegman's then set up a pilot project, with the chapter serving as the 'test pilots.'
